What a great find. To start, I feel like I wasn't greeted very well by the hosts, but I'm sort of used to it because it seems to be common when you visit a nice restaurant solo. Not sure why. There was a host at the entrance and he directed me to go upstairs and I would be seated (he prepared the upstairs dining staff with his radio). I found it odd to not be escorted to the dining area, but I walked upstairs and then wasn't greeted by the hostess... so I walked up to her and greeted her. She asked how she could help me. Well, I would like a table! There was a live DJ, which was pretty cool, but I was definitely not expecting it at an upscale steakhouse. It was pretty loud... definitely not the place to go for an intimate dinner. I went on Saturday night, maybe it's different on a weeknight. After I was seated, I was promptly (and warmly) greeted by the maître d'. He made me feel very welcome even though I was solo. I checked out the "Unleaded" cocktails based on his suggestion. Unleaded means non-alcoholic, if you are wondering. They had 4 options (better than none!). I settled on the "No Side Sipping" which is made with Lyre's Dry London Spirit, WithCo Ginger Mule, simple syrup, lime, mint, cucumber mint sprig, and candied ginger. I had the drink in my hand in just a few minutes. Pretty good! Couldn't really taste any ginger, but it was tasty nonetheless. Easy to sip on and very light. Shortly after my mocktail came, my server, Tania, came by and introduced herself. She asked if I had any questions. I asked her about the pricing of oysters and she explained all the details from pricing to where they are from. Then I asked her about the sides and if the lobster mashed potatoes are any good. She said they are, but all the sides are made in large portions to share (like many steakhouses). She said I could order a half order, which was not listed on the menu. They had a really good selection of apps, salads, steaks, and sides. Not too few, but not too many to where you can't decide. I settled on 2 oysters, the A5 Wagyu New York Strip, and a half order of lobster mashed potatoes. When the oysters came and it was pretty comical. I wish I took a picture. They had a giant serving dish that was about 16 inches in diameter that could probably hold a couple dozen oysters with my two oysters on it. I laughed and started preparing my oysters. They had all the usual dressings with them- horseradish, cocktail sauce, lemons, Tabasco, as well as some seaweed. The oysters were very good and fresh. Tania checked back in and asked how the oysters were and said the steak would be arriving soon. And then it came... in all its glory- the Japanese A5 Wagyu New York from the Miyazaki Prefecture. I got the 8oz and it was definitely small compared to the 18oz+ ribeyes I'm used to ordering. In fact, this is the first steak I've ordered in over a decade that wasn't a ribeye. The half order of lobster mashed potatoes was a very decently sized serving. First, the steak. My gosh, the steak. The BEST steak I've ever had in my life. It was a perfect mid-rare and just melted in my mouth. There's nothing bad I could say about this steak. So much better than your typical New York steak... and I typically don't care for the cut. With all the marbling, it tasted like a ribeye. It was seasoned perfectly and was nice and hot. The lobster mashed potatoes were excellent as well. Tania previously informed the full order has 1.5lbs of lobster in it, so there was no shortage of lobster. They are seasoned with garlic and some herbs, so they're very flavorful. Tania came back and checked on me, asked if everything was good, and if I wanted some dessert. Heck yes... everything has been awesome so far, so let's get some dessert! Once I saw crème brûlée on the menu, it was over. Apparently, they are known for their butter cake, but whenever there's crème brûlée in the menu, I get it. When it came, it was almost everything I wanted. I forgot to take a picture because I was so excited. The strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries that came with it were fresh and perfectly ripe. Vanilla bean specs were throughout the entire dish. My only complaint is that the crème got just a little too "brûléed" and was slightly burnt. Not a big deal. It was still great. I chatted with Tania a little once the bill came and asked if she liked working there... she said she absolutely did, and it shows. Both her and the maître d' were awesome. Such a good experience at this steakhouse once I was seated. I think they just need to work on their initial contact to make it feel more welcoming when entering. The Japanese A5 Wagyu was pretty expensive, but well worth the price and not as expensive as I've seen at other steakhouses. Overall, the pricing really wasn't bad considering it's an upscale steakhouse in San Francisco. My bill came out to around $245 for the mocktail, oysters, steak, mashed potatoes, and dessert. Can't wait to go again!

I was here for a work dinner in the private room on floor 3. Pros: + Service is friendly and professional What I Ordered: + Double Cut Pork Chop; 4/5 + Creamy Corn (dangerously good!); 5/5 + Broccoli; 5/5 Mastro's might be a steakhouse, but the Double Cut Pork Chop crushed their petit steak. I was the only one who ordered the pork chop while everyone got steak. Their steaks were small and not even close to Harris' on Van Ness. The pork chop here is double cut, juicy, and tender. A nice change from my usual steak dinners. I'd come back for the pork chop.

What a CLASS act this place was! Have been to several Mastro's around the state and never been treated so well! For my birthday I was craving the famous Lemondrop and Paul's did not disappoint! He greeted us and asked what we were celebrating and did not miss a beat. Champagne toast for my birthday. Perfect recommendation on the bacon steak. Fabulous butter cake! And wait- he's a great photographer too! Thank you all at the bar for making my birthday special. We will be back!

Visited San Francisco to see a concert with some friends and chose to have dinner at Mastro's Steakhouse from a previous very positive experience. My party started with cocktails, we eventually moved onto the seafood tower, which I HIGHLY recommend the seafood tower is beautifully presented and fresh. The service throughout the night was very kind and made sure we were taken care of. The ambiance brings a dim lighting to your table with light music in the distance which we all found very relaxing. We ordered steak and some sides but one thing I'm excited for when coming here is they have my favorite wine which is so difficult to find it's called GOGI by Kurt Russell I suggest ordering a bottle cause you won't find it anywhere.

Despite the pouring rain on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant buzzed with energy when I arrived at 6pm. Spread across three floors, the venue caters to different styles. The second floor offers a classic dining experience, while the third floor is reserved for private events. I started with the Shrimp Cocktail, a visual feast with a touch of smokiness. The plump, firm shrimp were incredibly fresh and delightful. the String Bean Tempura arrived - perfectly fried, not greasy, and boasting a vibrant green color. The sweetness of the beans made them the perfect appetizer. But the true star of the show was the Crispy Garlic Tuna Sashimi. This dish, placed on a bed of colorful vegetables, quickly became my favorite. For my main course, I opted for the 8oz Filet Mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts. The steak arrived perfectly cooked to my request, a flavorful crust and a well-seasoned steak. Rounding out the experience was the professional and efficient service. The live music playing softly in the corner added a touch of vibrancy to the atmosphere. Mastro's might be known as a steakhouse, but it offers a surprisingly diverse menu that goes beyond the expected. The lively atmosphere makes it a great choice for a night out, and the friendly yet professional service ensures a pleasant experience. Overall, Mastro's is a great option for those seeking a restaurant with character - far from your typical, stodgy steakhouse.

Flew into San Fran for a weekend getaway and decided to have an intimate birthday party here for my daughter and was pleasantly surprised. Mastro's is very upscale, so plan to dress accordingly. I would strongly encourage reservations as well. I discovered Mastro's has 3 levels. the first floor/street level which is where you will wait has a bar area, the second level is for dining, and the third level is for private dining situations. The hostess will come get you when your table is ready and you will take a lovely journey up a very aesthetic elevator to the second level dining area. What I really loved about the seating was that there were heat lamps over you for warmth. The lightening was very dark and ambient so use your phone light to see the menu if you cant see like me lol. The cocktails were crafted nicely and presented to our table in a timely manner. The steaks were so well seasoned or marinated I didn't need any A1 steak sauce. Every detail, from the napkins, my daughters surprise birthday cake, and even the to-go bags were intricately designed and created such a top tier experience.

This was my first time dining at Mastro's Steakhouse. Truthfully, I was more impressed with the assortment of breads in the bread basket and the seafood tower than I was with the dry-aged tomahawks. The breads were hot, fresh, and delicious! The mini seafood tower that we ordered came with a dozen raw oysters and half dozen jumbo prawns. They were placed on a tower with dry ice and made a very dramatic entrance. They looked appealing and tasted incredibly fresh and succulent! I shared the dry-aged tomahawk with my colleague. Parts of it were dry and other parts were extremely rare. It was well seasoned but we did not enjoy it. We ordered a side of broccolini to share and it was very salty. For dessert, we shared a chocolate mousse cake that was rich and decadent. Our server took excellent care of us and we enjoyed he experience, in spite of the unevenly cooked meat. The restaurant was extremely dark and we had to use our phone's flashlight to view the menu.
